What I collect, and why

The only information I ask you for is what you type into a form. There are three. My form provider also records some technical information with every submission — see Where it’s stored below. Separately, I count page views — see Cookies and tracking below; that counting is anonymous and never reaches these forms.

Speaking inquiry

Your name, email address, and anything you tell me about the event — so I can respond to your inquiry.

Interview request

Name, outlet, email, topic and deadline — so I can respond to press.

General contact

Name, email and your message — so I can reply.

That’s it. I don’t ask for anything I don’t need in order to reply to you.

Who sees it

I do. That’s the whole list.

I’m a one-person operation — no assistant, no agency, no booking desk. Inquiries come straight to me and I read them myself.

Where it’s stored

When you send a form, your browser posts it straight to Formspark, a third-party service. Nothing you type is stored on this website. Formspark receives and stores form submissions and emails them to me. I also keep those emails in Google Workspace. A hidden field on each form catches automated spam; it collects nothing about you.

What Formspark records alongside what you typed. Sending a form is a request from your browser, so Formspark also receives the IP address it came from, an approximate location worked out from that address, and your browser’s user agent, the page you came from and the site the request originated on. It uses them to filter spam and to keep the form endpoint working. Its published policy keeps the IP address and the derived location for twelve months, holds the rest with the submission it belongs to, and keeps the submission itself until it is deleted from the account — recoverable there for thirty days after that. Formspark stores this in Ireland and Germany, and handles it on my instructions rather than for its own purposes. Its privacy policy is the full account, and it is the one to read if you want the detail rather than the summary.

The site itself is hosted by Cloudflare Pages.

If you buy the book, payment is handled entirely by Stripe on its own checkout page. I never see your card number. Stripe gives me the order and shipping information I need to send your book, because I pack and ship every copy myself.

How long I keep it

I don’t routinely delete inquiry emails, form submissions, or order records. I leave them in Google Workspace, Formspark, and Stripe, respectively, without a scheduled deletion date.

Those services also have their own retention rules. Formspark says submissions remain until deleted from the account and remain recoverable for 30 days afterward. Technical information, such as IP addresses and browser details, is subject to its published retention policy. Google Workspace has its own deletion and recovery processes, which can continue after I remove an email from my mailbox. Stripe describes its retention practices in its privacy policy.

If you want your information deleted, email [email protected]. I’ll delete the relevant emails from my mailbox and your submissions from Formspark, then tell you what I’ve done. Deleted information may remain recoverable for a period through Google Workspace or Formspark, including through account controls available to me. Stripe may retain payment records under its own retention requirements. I’ll explain any remaining recovery periods or records that must be kept.

Cookies and tracking

I use Cloudflare Web Analytics to see how many people visit and which pages they read. It doesn’t use cookies, doesn’t identify you, and doesn’t follow you to other sites. I can see that a page was read; I can’t see that you read it. That data stays with Cloudflare and comes back to me only as counts.

Buying the book. Checkout happens on Stripe’s own page, not here, so nothing about a purchase sets a cookie on this site. What Stripe does on its page is covered by Stripe’s privacy policy.

Fonts. The typefaces are served from this site, not from Google Fonts or any other font service. Loading a page here doesn’t tell a font company you did.

Embedded content from other sites — a video player, for instance — may set its own cookies. I don’t control those.

What I don’t do

Your choices

You can ask me to tell you what I hold about you, correct it if it’s wrong, delete it as described under How long I keep it, or stop emailing you.

Email [email protected] and I’ll do it. No process, no form. Depending on where you live you may have these rights by law; I’d honor them regardless.

Children

This site isn’t aimed at children and I don’t knowingly collect information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has sent me something, tell me and I’ll delete it.

Changes

If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it. If it changes in a way that matters, I’ll say so on the site rather than hoping you re-read it.
